Job Description:
This position reports to the Machine Shop Supervisor. It requires significant experience in using conventional mills, conventional lathes, and bench tools to perform a wide variety of machining operations. The individual must be able to:
Identify the stated and unstated needs of RMB and its customers as related to safety, product quality and schedule performance;
Exercise sound judgment to determine the machines and tools to be used for a particular operation, taking into account risk, cost, work piece geometry, uncertainties, and other factors;
Use machines and tools with a high degree of proficiency to complete the operations within the planned tolerances;
Detect and explain problems that have affected (or might affect) safety, quality, or schedule performance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Maintain compliance with safety and quality regulations throughout all activities.
Maintain a professional and cooperative attitude throughout all activities.
Receive work orders and drawings from department supervisor, or from the department that performed a previous operation.
Review the work orders, drawings, and materials to verify that the stated requirements can be met.
Evaluate and understand risks, costs, workpiece geometry, uncertainties, and any other factors that will impact success of the operation(s).
Determine appropriate machines, tools, and processes to perform the required machining operations.
Complete the operation using available machines and tools, including: manual mill, manual lathe, bandsaw, surface grinder, arbor press, right:angle grinder, belt sander, pneumatic rotary tool, hacksaw, file, and abrasives.
Verify dimensional requirements using available measuring instruments.
Remove burrs, break sharp edges, and clean parts in accordance with good workmanship practices.
Document the machining methods (including notes or suggestions for future production runs) on an ECC for inclusion into the product's work order master.
Use ERP terminal to perform all required transactions, including attendance clock:in, attendance clock:out, job start, and job stop.
Physically carry or move the workpiece to the next operation stated on the work order. Use totes, cranes, pallet jacks, hand trucks, or forklifts in accordance with safety training.
Participate in meetings to plan the design of products, tools, or processes; or to respond to problems.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
Operation, capabilities, and maintenance of manual lathes and mills.
Operation of measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, height gages, gage pins, bore gages, and telescopic gages.
Tools and techniques for benchwork and layout work.
Shop mathematics including arithmetic, basic trigonometry, fractions, decimals, numbered drill sizes, and algebraic formulas.
Standard off:the:shelf hardware including fasteners, dowel pins, toggle clamps, and quick:change workholding systems.
Manufacturing practices including machining, moldmaking, molding, welding, fabrication, and assembly.
Ability to:
Understand the company's current materials, machines, tools, and processes
Appreciate the re:utilization of existing designs and processes, as balanced with potential gains from new ideas
Execute decisions based on assumptions or working theories when complete information cannot be obtained
Perform machining operations efficiently and correctly
Communicate with accuracy and precision using written and spoken English
Identify and discuss risks
Accommodate changing plans and competing priorities
Reach a consensus within a team or group
Work cooperatively with others.
Review or check the work products of others to ensure conformance to standards.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
